All Access Ship Tour
5/9/18
On the fourth day of the cruise, we did the all access tour of the ship.
After meeting and getting a pat-down by security, we were escorted to the bridge where we met 2ndofficer, Marina, who explained the ships radars and controls to us. On each side of the bridge are windows in the floor so the captain can see any markings on the dock when he pulls in.
In the center of the bridge is the horseshoe shaped control center. The captain can steer the ship from either the joystick on the arm of the chair or the wheel.
From the bridge we then went to the laundry room. The largest machine in the room folds the bed sheets. While the laundry room was loud we were surprised that the room was cool as the air conditioning kept it that way.
Next to the laundry room is the print shop that prints all of the flyers and the daily Compass (itinerary/events). There are boxes for each section of rooms and any flyers for the rooms go into those boxes that housekeeping checks twice a day to deliver notices.
We got to walk down the I-95 corridor that is the main crew hallway where all of the areas of the ship can be accessed.
The next stop was the engine room. It was a control center that monitored the engines with cameras.
From the engine room we went to the recycling center. All of the glass is separated by color for recycling. There are many regulations the environmental officer, Ana, needs to make sure the ship is adhering too.
We then went to the storage boxes. When supplies are received each area comes to gather their supplies. All of the food is put into large bins by type. We got to go into one of the meat freezers, that was mostly pork, and then the vegetable freezer. There are over 20 boxes of food/drink on the ship.
We then went to the kitchen and the rolls that would be served with dinner that night were being made. Bakers work night and day making fresh bread for the ship.
