Rome!

The cruise ended in Civitavecchia, Italy. We took a shot bus ride to the train station and then an hour train ride into Rome. At the end of a cruise you have to be out of your room by 8:00 am so we were in Rome by 10:00 am. We weren’t able to get the keys to the studio we booked on Airbnb till 3:00 pm. Luckily our friend, Anthony, flew over for a vacation during the time we are in Rome and we were able to leave our luggage in his room and walk around Rome.

Less than a 10 minute walk from where we are staying we can see the Colosseum.

We went to the Trevi Fountain.

Our walk continued past the Pantheon. There was a line and we mainly wanted to check out places on our first day for future visits, so we decided not to go in.

On to Piazza Navona.

Wandering around we came to Vittoriano. The monument started in 1885 to honor Italy’s first king, Victor Emmanuel II. It was completed in 1925 and had an eternal flame that is guarded and the Tome of the Unknown Soldier.

We went into the monument and walked around a museum about the Italian unification.

After all the walking we had our first wine in Italy.

We then went to our AirBNB and had to do laundry. We found that European washers also do a pseudo-drying process (since they don’t have dryers) and each load was taking 2 hours. The clothes were still not all that dry so we had to lay them out on a rack to dry.

Welcome to Italia!
