Palazzo Pitti and Gardens
Date: June 1, 2018
Location: Florence, Italy
B.A.Livin’ Savings: €8 per person
Palazzo Pitti is a large palace that was designed in 1457.
The palace contains many rooms from when the Savoy family lived there during 1880 – 1891.
B.A.Livin’ Savings Tip: The palace opens at 8:15 a.m. To get 50% off admission to the palace, you just need to show up and buy tickets before 9:00 a.m. Thus, we were able get in for €8 each instead of €16, and it is much less crowded, meaning less time is wasted waiting in lines. I wish more museums offered a discount for going early!
Did you think those were status above the door? It is actually a completely flat painting, but is done in a way that makes the subjects appear like 3D statues.
There were many clocks in the palace. Here is one that I liked best:
Continuing on in the palace, eventually you come to an area where the exhibit changes. Currently on display is art made with yarn and wood. Here are some of the books that were on display, all made from thread:
The palace also houses the Galleria del Costume. Each room in the gallery had a different style.
Furthermore, the palace includes the Galleria d’Arte Moderna (Gallery of Modern Art), which displays 18th and 19th century paintings, as well as the Tesoro dei Granduchi (Treasury of the Grand Dukes). We went to both of those exhibits as well.
After touring all the exhibits inside, we went to the garden behind the palace, Giardino di Boboli.
There were many paths in the garden.
The garden has a man-made pond with fruit trees growing in the center.
Up the hill and on the other side of the garden is another pond.
The garden also provides wonderful views overlooking the city of Florence.
The ticket for the Giardino di Boboli also includes Giardino Bardini, another garden that is close by.
The Bardini Garden also provides nice views of the city.
The Giardino Bardini had more flowers in it then the Boboli Garden. While the Bardini Garden was smaller, I liked it better than Boboli.
