Oslo, Norway Wrap Up
Date: June 23, 2018 – June 28, 2018
Location: Oslo, Norway
We were in Oslo, Norway for five nights. In the city center, there are very few cars on the road as the city would like to ban cars by 2019. To do that the city is making it difficult to park in the city center by removing all of the public parking spots. The cars that we did see were mostly electric cars. During our time in Norway, we saw many more Teslas than we have ever seen in the US.
The Airbnb we stayed in was a short walk from Slottsparken the park where the Royal Palace is.
The Royal Palace is open for eight weeks in the summer for tours. I did the tour and enjoyed going through rooms that are used today. I learned that the current king wears a closed crown (points meet in center) and the next in line wears a open crown (points go up).
At the palace we saw the the guards.
Here is a statue of Maud who was the Queen of Norway.
Garden on the side of the Royal Palace.
Here is the Noble Peace Center, Nobels Fredssenter. It is museum about the Nobel Peace Prize winners.
Here is inside the walls of Akershus Festning. When we entered, some people were mock fighting with swords and shields.
Here is the Oslo Opera House. You can walk on to the roof.
Here is a view from the roof.
This is in the botanical garden.
We went to Vigelandsanlegget, a park with a over 200 sculptures in it, all created by Gustav Vigeland.
We noticed that restaurant prices in Oslo were a little lower than in Bergen. It will be interesting to see Oslo in five or more years once there are no cars allowed in the city center.
