Location: Visby, Sweden
Visby is the largest city on the Swedish island Gotland in the Baltic Sea. The city is surrounded by a medieval wall.
After a short bus ride from the airport, we entered the city through one of the medieval towers. Inside the wall, the roads are all cobblestone. There are some cars that drive within the walls, but they are infrequent and you do not often see more than one car passing at a time.
Next to the ocean is a nice bike path, and there is no wall facing the water.
There are also many benches and some public hammocks.
You can walk up one of the towers that is part of the wall. Here is the view outside of the wall.
Here is looking into the city.
This is the cathedral that you could see the top of in the above picture.
The city of Visby has many church ruins.
The city is on a slope down to the ocean so there are places around the city where you get a view of the ocean from higher up.
Many of the houses have large rose bushes on the street.
The city also has a botanical garden. Not a lot was in bloom when we were there.
There are some interesting trees in the garden. This is a Monkey Puzzle Tree, which has very sharp leaves.
The city also has a park.
In Visby we stayed at the Clarion Hotel Wisby, which we booked with points.
The hotel had a nice lounge we could hang out in with free coffee, tea and water. The hotel also offers a free breakfast that had many options.
Our hotel room looked out to the ocean and each night we were able to see the sunset, at around 9:50 pm, from our hotel window.
Visby was an enjoyable city with not a lot of people but many beautiful views of the ocean and picturesque streets. Also we found the restaurants to be cheaper than in Norway.
