Four Countries in 24 hours

Location: Copenhagen, Denmark – Hamburg, Germany – Basel, Switzerland – Lyon, France

After Copenhagen, Denmark, our next stop was France. To get to France we took a few trains, and during 24 hours, we entered four different countries! First, we left Copenhagen, Denmark and went to Hamburg, Germany.

After the first train arrived in Hamburg, we needed to store our luggage for a few hours. We were able to fit all of our luggage in a larger locker, and then spent the afternoon and evening exploring Hamburg. It’s still hard to believe that we had two giant Osprey bags and two duffel bags that fit entirely within the locker shown below!

With our bags in the locker, we could walk around Hamburg. Here is the Alster Fountain.

Here is the fountain in Hansaplatz.

We went to a traditional German restaurant for drinks…

and food before our long train ride.

It was then back to the Hamburg train station to gather our luggage and board our second train. Next, on to Switzerland!

Here we are at the start of our 11-hour overnight trip to Basel, Switzerland.

We arrived early in the morning to the Basel, Switzerland train station, pictured below. We had time to grab some breakfast before our train to Lyon, France.

Three trains later, we finally arrived in Lyon, France! Once in Lyon, France we picked up our rental car – which cost us a total of $14/day!

An exhausting, but exciting 24-hours it was! Check in for our next post as we make our way from Lyon to Grenoble, France, to watch a stage of the Tour de France.
