After visiting La Segrada Família, Brian and I went to Club Nou. Club Nou is the stadium where the professional football club, Futbol Club Barcelona – commonly referred to as Barça – plays.  We attended the evening match of FC Barcelona vs Boca Juniors, Argentina’s professional team.

There were many other people on their way to the stadium as well. We must be in the right place – look at all the Messi shirts!

The game we attended was the first of the season.

Waiting in the crowd of people for the gates to open.

In the 99,000 seat stadium.

Before the game started there was a DJ and dancers in a few areas of the stadium.

Here is the view from our seats.

All of the FC Barcelona players were introduced as they walked out onto the field.

Lionel Messi is a lot shorter than this teammates; however, we’d soon see that height doesn’t matter when it comes to amazing soccer players!

Before the game Messi address the crowd. I’m not sure what he said as it was in Spanish.

Both teams before the start of the game.

Start of the game.

The below is a picture of one of Messi’s free kicks after a pentaly. This is not from when Messi scored the goal during the game.

At half time the score was 2 – 0.

After half time FC Barcelona put in all different players and we didn’t see Messi play again. FC Barcelona won 3 – 0.

We walked to Plaça d’Espanya that is a large rotary with a fountain in the center. To the right is the old bullring, Las Arenas, that was remodeled and opening in 2011 as a mall.

In the other direction of Plaça d’Espanya are the Venetian Towers, Torres Venecianes.

The Venetian Towers start the path towards Palau Nacional, the National Palace.

This is Font màgica, the magic fountain, which is in front of Palau Nacional. Unfortunately, we did not see the fountain show since it was playing later that evening.

From the steps of the Palau Nacional there is a view of La Segrada Família.

A closer look at La Segrada Família.

From Palau Nacional we went to the other side of the hill, Montjuïc, to see Anella Olímpica, the main side for the 1992 summer olympics. The white tower is a communication tower that was built to transmit television coverage of the olympics.

This is the side of the main olympic stadium, Estadi Olímpic.

We were able to see into Estadi Olímpic.

On the side of Estadi Olímpic is the torch where the Olympic flame burned during the Olympics.

In Barcelona I enjoyed seeing Antoni Gaudí’s work. Barcelona is large and the streets are very wide as most are at least three lanes and some go up to eight lanes wide. There are plenty of crosswalks with traffic lights, so crossing the roads was not an issue. If you were thinking you wanted to visit Barcelona, I definitely recommend making the trip.
