Bruges, Belgium
Date: August 22, 2018 – August 24, 2018
Location: Bruges, Belgium
We left Paris and took a train to Bruges, Belgium. The town has many small cobblestone streets.
The most-visited place in Bruges is the Market Square, Markt.
Each side of Markt is nice, with interesting architecture, colorful houses, and a medieval feel.
The small canals are a popular area to take photos.
For my birthday Brian took me to Le Mystique for dinner.
We ordered the five-course meal paired with wine. There were also a few extra starters the chef prepared.
This one was really good!
This was the official 1st course.
2nd course
3rd course (with caviar!)
Brian’s main dish.

Dessert – 5th course
Followed by more little desserts.
After dinner we went to see Markt lit up at night.
The following day, we visited the chocolate museum, Choco-Story. It provides a history of chocolate and at the end there is a demonstration of how to make pralines, and then we got free samples.
We visited the diamond museum, Diamantmuseum.
We went to the Beer Experience bar area so Brian could try five Belgian beers on tap.
Waffles are very popular in Belgium, and there are many places that sell them with chocolate drizzled on top. You can smell the waffles and sweet chocolate all over the town. So of course, I had to try a waffle.
Bruges has many canals.
We took a canal tour.
The whale at the end is made from trash that was from a shore in Hawaii.
There are many bridges over the canals and most have very little clearance over the water.
The swan is a symbol of Bruges. The swans below were fenced in because there was algae in the canals that could make them sick.
We found these pretzels in a snack mix we were served at a restaurant.
We really enjoyed Bruges! During the days, there were a lot of people in many areas who came for day trips, but by late afternoon most were gone and it was much less crowded. As expected, the chocolate was delicious, as well as the beer. The town was beautiful. We both want to go back.
