Nice, France

We left Switzerland by train. Before we entered into Italy the scenery was very nice.

We took the train to Nice, France.

In Nice, I was surprised that the beach was very rocky. While we were at a winery in Condrieu, the owner asked why we wanted to go to Nice, as it is apparently not a popular place for French people to go. The top places in France I hear about in the United States are Paris and Nice, and so we decided to visit. I’m not sure how Nice got to be so popular in the United States.

At one end of the beach area there is a lookout with a sign that is a popular area to take pictures.

All along the beach is a large walking area and a bike path.

Cannes, France – Sept. 8, 2018

Cannes is a 40 minute train ride away, so we took a day trip to see the town. We walked up the hill the church is on for a view over the port and the coastline.

Each year the Cannes Film Festival is held at the Palais des Festivals convention center.

The beach in Cannes is sandy and there are yachts out in the water.

Monaco – Sept. 10, 2018

Monaco is a short 25-minute train ride from Nice, so it makes a good day trip.

We walked up Le Rocher.

At the top is Palais Princier de Monaco, Prince’s Palace. It is where the Grimaldi Family has lived since the 13th century. We went inside for a tour of some of the state apartments.

From the palace you can look out over Port Hercule.

This is Saint Nicholas Cathedral.

Much of Monaco is built into the rock or on top of it.

This is looking over Port de Fontvieille.

We went to the Prince’s car collection.

In the car collection there was also an area with Formula 1 cars.

This is an entrance to a mall that is built inside the rock.

We took the elevator down to come to the hallway that leads to the stores.

In Monaco we saw a couple Rolls-Royce cars park on the side of the street, but for the most part there were not as many really expense cars being driven around as we had expected.
