After Bangkok, Thailand we spent a day at sea on the ship and on January 26, 2019 the ship docked in Phu My, Vietnam.

Phu My is about an hour and a half from Ho Chi Minh City. Our friend Mikey has been living in Ho Chi Minh City for about 2 years. For the day he hired a car and driver and came to meet us at the port. The roads are narrow and people drive like crazy. I’m not sure how there are not more accidents.

For the day we went to Vung Tau. Our first stop was the Vung Tau Lighthouse.

From the lighthouse there was a city and beach.

We got drinks at a cafe by the beach.

Below the cafe, a couple men were fishing on the beach. One would walk out into the ocean with one end of the net and make a large semi-circle and go back to the beach. Both men would then pull the net in. I was surprised by how many fish they got each time.

From the lighthouse we saw the Jesus Christ statue so we decided to go and see that. It is on the top of Mount Nho.

Walking up there were figures on the path.

The statue was completed in 1993.

The statue is 118 feet high and the arms span 60 feet.

After we got some food and then walked on the beach.

We had drinks before going back to the ship.

Overall, it was a fun day, and great to see our friend. Since we’ll be returning to Ho Chi Minh city to visit Mikey for a little over a week in April, it was nice to see a city in Vietnam that we probably wouldn’t have seen otherwise.
