Alicante, Spain
5/17/18
The ship stopped in Alicante, Spain and we did an excursion that went to the town of Novelda. In Novelda the first stop was at Castillo de la Mola, the ruins of a castle. There are two towers sill standing. One is a square and the other one is a triangle as they were built in different time periods. We were able to climb to the top of the triangle tower for a view of the area.
The top of the church that you can see, Santuario de Santa María Magdalena, was our next visit.
For any one who is familiar with La Sagrada Família in Barcelona, Spain you may see the resemblance. The designer of the church took their inspiration from Antonio Gaudí. The church we saw, however, was only started in 1918 and is complete.
We were able to go into the church and the inside looked modern. The organ is being made out of marble and in still in process as funds become available.
Looking out from the church, on the right just above the center, you can see a couple buildings together, a brown and white one. That is the Casa Cesilia winery. Our next stop!
At the winery as you walked in below the floor we could see a wine cellar.
Our wine tasting, as part of the excursion, ended up just being having a glass or white and a glass of red wine. The winery had more than 2 wines but that was all we tried.
Looking out from the winery you could see the church (our previous stop) up on the hill.
After our wine it was back to the ship.
