Spanish Steps
5/21/18
Brian and I got up and went for a run. Late morning we went to Piazza Mignanelli with the Column of the Immaculate Conception.
We sat on the Spanish steps for a few minutes.
Our walk continued around the Villa Borghese park.
There were some flowers in the park and I saw a nice purple one.
In the park is a small pond where row boats can be rented.
The pond had many ducks around it and some turtles. There was a corner where a lot of turtles were getting some sun. We wondered why one had a foot up, like it was striking a pose.
After the park we went to Piazza del Popolo. Those are twin 17th-century churches. The obelisk in the middle is from ancient Egypt.
We then went to the Pantheon and went in this time, as the line was much shorter.
The church has the largest unreinforced concrete dome in the world. That is an opening in the dome. When it rains water can come in. The marble floor is slightly slanted so the water drains and there are small holes to drain the water.
Our first full day in Rome was good. The city is easy to get around walking.

I love the name of the website “balivin.com”. and yes you two are living!
The photo’s are amazing and show the history of the country. I was talking with my brother Ralph who after 4 years in the air force, decided to live in Europe for 2 years. He still has 15 boxes of 45 millimeter projection slides (yes it was definitely back in the day). I am not even sure if they had polaroid cameras back then some 40 years ago. Telling him about you and Alyssa’s travels brought back many memories.
Thank you both for sharing this amazing time in your lives.
Safe Travels
Tom
