Hobart, Tasmania
Date: February 22, 2019
Location: Hobart, Tasmania – Australia
After leaving Sydney, Australia at 8:00 pm on February 20, 2019 we spent February 21, 2019 on the ship sailing to Tasmania. At around 7:00 am on February 22, 2019 the ship docked in Hobart, Tasmania. The port looked similar to the ones we saw in New Zealand with lots of wood.
This is from the cruise ship looking towards the Tasman Bridge.
We were able to walk from the ship to downtown. We went to the Cat and Fiddle Arcade.
Above the food court is the animated Cat and Fiddle Clock. At the top of each hour music plays and the clock acts out the nursery rhyme.
Hey Diddle Diddle,
The cat and the fiddle,
The cow jumped over the moon.
The little dog laughed,
To see such sport,
And the dish ran away with the spoon.
After seeing the animated Cat and Fiddle clock we went to the free Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. In the museum we learned about the venomous jack jumper ant. Many people are allergic to the ants’ venom and can die from a jack jumper ant’s bite due to the allergic reaction.
We saw what the Tasmanian devil looks like.
Before going back to the ship we went to Gasworks Cellar Door, which had information about the history of wine. They have wine from all over Tasmania for purchase and 16 wines for tasting. We did a wine tasting and sampled 6 of the wines.
The cruise ship left Hobart in the afternoon. We would like to see more of Tasmania.
